The way forward

This is my third blog about the life as a Business Architect. The way forward.

I think you know what to do and I think you know when the right moment appears. With proper planning you´ll catch the wave. But will you be able to go all the way? Will you manage all the work needed to be done?

Well, remember to start in small-scale and take small steps. Communicate with potential sponsors and the people within your organization authorized to make decisions. You probably know which ones so I´m not gonna talk about that, neither what you´re gonna present. You learned that at the course. It´s with what and how you communicate that is interesting. It should be easy enough to break the interest-barrier without scaring people off, but complex enough to make them realize that what youré talking about is a serious problem or even a threat if left unattended. So how do you do that? Well the answer is models. The human brain thinks in pictures so why do we stubbornly continue to write routine descriptions, functional requirements, RFI´s and RFP´s etc. in documents? I think the two most important reason why we shouldn´t continue is:

  1. It´s easier to understand a model than written text
  2. It´s faster to draw a model than to write an equal describing text

Models won´t replace all text of course, but they play a vital part in explaining complex structures, relationships and hierarchies. That´s why and where we should use them. Look at any manufacturing industry or at construction. They all use drawings and even models to describe what they plan to create. This is a habit the service sector should benefit from if fully implemented. Models will help you explain what you want to say, describe your problems or your proposals for solutions. But they are usually hard to create by yourself. Again if we turn to any industry, they use a designer or architect to create a drawing and the same thing goes for Enterprise Architecture. At aRway, we specialize in this. We help our clients to establish the best presumptions possible to develop their business, by providing leading methodologies, tools and consultants specialized in modeling. Our strategic goal is to be the #1 in Enterprise Modeling. When you utilize our professional services, we want you to get exactly that feeling.

If you´re attending Business Model Summit, please pay us a visit in the lobby. We will present a whole new idéa how to support you in your work. A Value Proposition developed from a true Blue Ocean Strategy as good as we know how to create one.

Your way forward with us will be a fast way - what do you think the "R" in aRway stands for?!
